GMO products, deciphering what harm is.Man a social, we constantly exchange information with the outside world. We go shopping, watch TV, read articles on the Internet and everywhere you can find three interesting letters - GMO. It
is interesting that there are GMOs in our lives for several decades,
but only recently, this phenomenon began to pay attention. This is because GM chose the laboratories and was a clear separation of the concepts of selection and GMOs.
GMOs in vegetables GMOs in a purple carrot.
If
the products of the supermarkets you scare for Moscow and the Moscow
region has such a wonderful shop Fermermag, which will take you to a
fresh and natural products, tasty and healthy, check logs, orders turned
out very tasty.
So, what is GMO and selection? Breeding - is crossing similar organisms, it is science, which aims to find the most adaptable organisms. With
breeding can cross an apple and a pear, peach, apple, even a tiger and a
lion, but it is done, what would bring more to adapt to the
individual's life.
We
can say that the process of domestication with / crops and animals from
ancient times to the present day - is also a process of selection. Thus, the selection of driving the same organisms in nature, for example, different breeds of dogs that would take third.
GMOs - genetically modified organisms, there are concepts such as GMP - genetically modified products. Such organisms are organisms in which there is a foreign gene. In other words. The scientists took a gene one creature and implanted it in another. Tomato with fish gene probably is not is no news, so many imagine what it was about.
The
fact is that when scientists are wedged into the natural environment of
the body and modify them, they break the natural course of life. At the simplest level, GMO primarily harms the food chain. Scientists still do not know what will happen next, after the GMO will actively develop without their supervision. In some ways, this is already happening.
Few of us know that this is not carrot orange, its true color - purple. Just as there were varieties of raspberry, white and yellow. Just carrots are used in food, as it is today, it was more a remedy. Only
in the 16th century carrots purchased orange hue and we owe this
selection scientists who began to cross different types of carrots.
This carrot to date is very rare and expensive. An
interesting fact is that it is so easily modified organism perceives
the other versions, so maybe carrots that we eat today is not even
worthy of being called carrots. To the outside world is certainly not a positive factor that purple carrots disappeared from the face of the earth.
Just disappeared hundreds of apples, potatoes, corn, cabbage and other vegetables and fruits. The
thing is that scientists find a certain kind and begin to modify it,
and other varieties are gradually dying out, because they displace more
tenacious relatives. Example: American farmers and rape. Rape,
which used to be grown quite fragile culture, but constantly modifying
its scientists have ensured that it will not eat insects, it does not
apply to poison weeds.
The
reverse side of that rape seeds are easily carried in the surrounding
fields and the plants grow in the territories of other cultures, as well
as the cities grow randomly. Because of their resistance to any chemicals and insects, people can not take it. Rape destroys other plants that are trying to grow farmers. Who knows what lies ahead and will not spare the human species that is left of the natural diversity of plants?
Rape
In Norway, the opponents of such modifications are already creating "ark" for seed. Many of the crops are gathered there already exists. Semenohranilische is at a depth of 120 meters below the ground and at a height of 30 meters above sea level. Store is a real tank, it will have to stand in the event of nuclear war,
environmental disasters and natural calamities. Those seeds that can survive even in a dormant, frozen. Also
in the ark can be found frozen animal DNA in the first place there were
placed such DNA, which are on the verge of extinction. Scientists who work in this incredible place, note that in the last decade, the rate of extinction has increased.
Of
course, in addition semenohranilischa in the world there are a number
of others, but this is the most secure and be able to resist, even in
the case of melting glaciers and will stay for at least a thousand
years.
But consider what is a GMO in fact. The first cause of GMOs - it dramatically increased the number of people on the planet. No
one knows why, and most importantly for what humanity has become so
quickly multiply and grow, because if the result statistics, by 2050 the
world population will be at least 9.5 billion people. October 31, 2011 will be officially born 7 billion people on earth. For example: in 1800, the world population was 1,000,000,000. In 1929 - 2 billion, and for the last 50 years the population has increased from 3 to 7 billion people.
With GMO scientists try to defeat hunger for all these people, but at what cost? In introducing potato gene scorpion and the Colorado potato beetle, so that other insects or damaged potatoes. In tomatoes and strawberries, as noted earlier, have introduced gene flounder that whatever they touched the cold. Genes, for what would have been the fruit of careful and smooth just is actively implementing many products.
GMP is the most common soy, wheat, corn, sugar beet, cotton, canola, tobacco, strawberries and other fruits and vegetables. But over time, scientists are starting to adopt the modified genes into animals. So - grow cows, composed entirely of muscle mass, or chicken in which the "legs" is more than the whole chicken. Eggs, which are spiced chicken can be any of the genes that are either help people or not.
Another reason for GMOs - is gain. Those
who shout about the usefulness of such products receive permanent
income, and those who conceal the truth and just use of genetically
modified organisms on their farms and industries have losses due to bad
harvests or lean animals and again remain in profit. Genetically modified organisms is a new weapon that can use people.
Even
if just to be able to capture the weeds / x of the country, which is
opposed to politicians - it will be an amazing victory, is it a
country-winner will be able to deliver to the defeated countries those
products that have been modified and they can contain anything. Moreover, they will profit from the supply of these products. Because
of the damage that can cause GMOs, many countries have restrictions on
the use of the interest of such products, for example: in Japan, you can
rate the content of GMOs in the product - 5%, in Europe - no more than
0.9%, while in the U.S. - 10%. In almost all countries Mandatory labeling of GMO content in it. In Russia, there is also the law under which the sign Mandatory labeling of GMOs, if their content exceeds 0.9%. An interesting fact that in the first, the official version of a GMO was starvation in Africa. GMP
were invented that would imported into their poor countries, but rather
then in Africa have banned the import of GMO products. Scanty, but ecologically pure food Africans seemed more acceptable for human consumption.
As far as damaging modified foods? Openly
about it will not tell anybody, but if you just think about, how much
security can be products, which contain a gene wandering another? Consuming day-to-day kind of food that is in a person? Hulk and Spider-Man in comparison with that just ordinary people.Dismantled,
the transgene itself, which consumes a person shall not be harm to a
person, because this gene alone can not fit into the human genetic code.
However, as he leads the way on the body, it triggers the synthesis of proteins, which may lead to marginally severe allergies. In the U.S., allergy affects 70% of the population, and many scientists believe that it is precisely because of the GMO. As well, there is a strong decrease in immunity and metabolism. Other damage to the body causes the transgene in the stomach, causing a disruption of the mucosa. GMF can cause cancer, it occurs when a mutation of cells begins in the gut. But all this is not really as scary as the real threat that can bring GMOs.
Russian
scientists have conducted an independent investigation using feeds that
contain GMOs, they feed animals such substances and found that most of
the animals can not have offspring, and they began appearing tumor. Infertility - this is what causes the GMP, if consumed frequently. Not
only are the animals that are still born, had obvious mutations
rejection limbs, hair in places where it should not be, atrophied
muscles and stuff. After that, these mutated animals do not have offspring.
Those
fed GM feed a large number of cattle, which then gets to us on the
table, add the GM plant and you get in your body something unknown, but
certainly scary. After the use of such products, people can be normal? Children who will be born, will have more and more mutations. If the change is in the human body is not visible open, soon they will be everywhere. Already, there are cases where children are born with mutations in these cases are more frequent. You
are free to decide what you GMO - saving endangered species and people,
or the path of mutation and the disappearance of the world. But, anyway, always read the label with the composition of substances in foods that are buying, do not buy anything suspicious. Often,
manufacturers do not write about what is actually in the product
contains GMOs, so pay attention to the list of food additives. If
you meet: E101 and E101, E150 (caramel), E153 (calcium carbonate),
E160a (beta-carotene, a precursor of vitamin A, retinol), E160b
(Annatto) E160d (lycopene), E234 (lowlands), E235 (natamycin); E270

(BHT), E322 (lecithin), with E325
to E327 (lactate), E330 (citric acid), E415 (xanthine), E459

-
you know, before you supplements that contain genetically modified
organisms.As
already stated above, the main products that contain GMO soybeans and
is its form, corn, and all part of what it is, tomatoes, zucchini,
beets, wheat, and consequently bread, sunflower oil, rice, carrots and
onions.Just give a list of popular companies that use
GMOs in production: Kelloggs,Nestle, Heinz Foods, Coca-Cola, McDonalds, Danon, Similac, Cadbury, Mars, PepsiCo.Remember
it is always better to be safe, if you want adrenaline and excitement -
it is better to bail out than to take their children and grandchildren
on the existence of a mutation in a changed world.
Take care of yourself and the world around you and are suspicious of anything that you want to use in the food. These days, we can not even rely on that will themselves grow. Why? For the reason that the earth itself is poisoned constant sprinkles chemistry and draining sewage. In
the world there is a constant cycle in which that merged into another
part of the earth, in a few days with precipitation will fall to your
yard. The only advice we can give - be careful and attentive.

Genetically modified food is in a store near you today. In
fact, it’s been there for years. You may not know it, but in all the
fracas over genetically modified food, one point is often left out:
You’ve been eating it for a long time and no one has told you. This infographic from Nature’s Path--which
makes organic cereals, bars, and waffles that contain no GMO
ingredients, they’d like you to know--shows where you’re getting your
genetically modified treats, and why no one has told you:
GMO HEALTH DANGER Genetically modified foods… Are they safe? The American Academy of Environmental Medicine (AAEM)
doesn’t think so. The Academy reported that “Several animal studies
indicate serious health risks associated with GM food,” including
infertility, immune problems, accelerated aging, faulty insulin
regulation, and changes in major organs and the gastrointestinal system.
The AAEM asked physicians to advise patients to avoid GM foods.
Before the FDA decided to allow GMOs into food without labeling, FDA scientists
had repeatedly warned that GM foods can create unpredictable,
hard-to-detect side effects, including allergies, toxins, new diseases,
and nutritional problems. They urged long-term safety studies, but were ignored.
Since then, findings include:
Thousands of sheep, buffalo, and goats in India died after grazing on Bt cotton plants
Mice eating GM corn for the long term had fewer, and smaller, babies
More than half the babies of mother rats fed GM soy died within three weeks, and were smaller
Testicle cells of mice and rats on a GM soy change significantly
By the third generation, most GM soy-fed hamsters lost the ability to have babies
Rodents fed GM corn and soy showed immune system responses and signs of toxicity
Cooked GM soy contains as much as 7-times the amount of a known soy allergen
Soy allergies skyrocketed by 50% in the UK, soon after GM soy was introduced
The stomach lining of rats fed GM potatoes showed excessive cell growth, a condition that may lead to cancer.
Studies showed organ lesions, altered liver and pancreas cells, changed enzyme levels, etc.
Unlike safety evaluations for drugs, there are no human clinical
trials of GM foods. The only published human feeding experiment revealed
that the genetic material inserted into GM soy transfers into bacteria
living inside our intestines and continues to function. This means that
long after we stop eating GM foods, we may still have their GM proteins produced continuously inside us. This could mean:
If the antibiotic gene inserted into most GM crops were to transfer, it could create super diseases, resistant to antibiotics
If the gene that creates Bt-toxin in GM corn were to transfer, it
might turn our intestinal bacteria into living pesticide factories.
Genetically modified foods (GMO foods) have been shown to cause harm
to humans, animals, and the environment, and despite growing opposition,
more and more foods continue to be genetically altered. It’s important
to note that steering clear of these foods completely may be difficult,
and you should merely try to find other sources than your big chain
grocer. If produce is certified USDA-organic, it’s non-GMO (or supposed
to be!) Also, seek out local farmers and booths at farmer’s markets
where you can be ensured that the crops aren’t GMO. Even better, if you
are so inclined: Start organic gardening and grow them yourself. Until then, here are the top 10 worst GMO foods for your “do not eat” GMO foods list.
GMO Foods List: Top 10 Worst Foods
1. Corn
One of the most prominent GMO foods, avoiding corn
is a no-brainer. If you’ve watched any food documentary, you know corn
is highly modified. “As many as half of all U.S. farms growing corn for
Monsanto are using genetically modified corn,” and much of it is
intended for human consumption. Monsanto’s GMO corn has been tied to numerous health issues, including weight gain and organ disruption.
2. Soy
Found in tofu, vegetarian products, soybean oil, soy
flour, and numerous other products, soy is also modified to resist
herbicides. As of now, biotech giant Monsanto still has a tight grasp on
the soybean market, with approximately 90 percent of soy being
genetically engineered to resist Monsanto’s herbicide Roundup. In one
single year, 2006, there was 96.7 million pounds of glyphosate sprayed
on soybeans alone.
3. Sugar
According to NaturalNews, genetically-modified sugar
beets were introduced to the U.S. market in 2009. Like others, they’ve
been modified by Monsanto to resist herbicides. Monsanto has even had
USDA and court-related issues with the planting of it’s sugarbeets,
being ordered to remove seeds from the soil due to illegal approval.
4. Aspartame
Aspartame is a toxic additive used in numerous food
products, and should be avoided for numerous reasons, including the fact
that it is created with genetically modified bacteria.
5. Papayas
This one may come as a surprise to all of you
tropical-fruit lovers. GMO papayas have been grown in Hawaii for
consumption since 1999. Though they can’t be sold to countries in the
European Union, they are welcome with open arms in the U.S. and Canada.
6. Canola
One of the most chemically altered foods in the U.S.
diet, canola oil is obtained from rapeseed through a series of chemical
actions.
7. Cotton
Found in cotton oil, cotton originating in India and China in particular has serious risks.
8. Dairy
Your dairy products may contain growth hormones,
since as many as one-fifth of all dairy cows in America are pumped with
these hormones. In fact, Monasnto’s health-hazardous rBGH has been banned in 27 countries, but is still in most US cows. If you must drink milk, buy organic.
9. and 10. Zucchini and Yellow Squash
Closely related, these two squash varieties are modified to resist viruses.
The dangers of some of these foods are well-known. The Bt toxin being
used in GMO corn, for example, was recently detected in the blood of
pregnant women and their babies. But perhaps more frightening are the
risks that are still unknown. Even while these foods should be on your GMO foods list so that they are avoided, you can buy 100% organic to be safest.
With little regulation and safety tests performed by the companies
doing the genetic modifications themselves, we have no way of knowing
for certain what risks these lab-created foods pose to us outside of what we already know.
The best advice: steer clear of them altogether.
The codes
printed on those little stickers, that can be so annoying to peel off,
represent the difference between potentially eating genetically
engineered produce and/or produce sprayed with synthetic pesticides,
versus, organically grown produce – not so annoying anymore are they? The next time you are shopping (or peeling the stickers off your produce) look for the following[1]:
A 4 digit PLU code - an indication that produce is conventionally grown (potentially sprayed with synthetic pesticides).
A 5 digit PLU code starting with the number 9 - an indication that produce is organically grown (refer to my blog post “Are Organic Products Worth the Hefty Price Tag” for 10 reasons why you may want to consider organic products the next time you are shopping).
A 5 digit PLU code starting with the
number 8 - an indication that produce is genetically modified (and
potentially sprayed with synthetic pesticides).
Let’s put this into context!
The 4 digit code 4589 may be used to identify conventionally grown sweet corn.
The 5 digit code 94589 may be used to identity organically grown sweet corn.
The 5 digit code 84589 may be used to identify genetically modified sweet corn. There is always a catch…
Unfortunately, the PLU labelling
system is voluntary in Canada and currently there are no Canadian
federal regulations specific to PLU stickers or what constitutes a PLU
sticker.[3] Rest assured however, that although the use of the sticker
may be optional, when a sticker is displayed the information on the
sticker must be accurate and truthful. Empower Yourself!
1. The next time you are shopping remember to read the PLU codes on
produce to decided if you want to leave it on the shelf or add it to
your cart. 2. If you are buying organic, ensure the PLU code starts with the number 9. 3. If you are trying to avoid
genetically engineered produce look out for the number 8 – the
unassuming number that actually translates to the claim “Product of
Genetic Engineering.”
Although no studies have evaluated if antibiotic or Bt-toxin genes
transfer, that is one of the key problems. The safety assessments are
too superficial to even identify most of the potential dangers from
GMOs. See our Health Risks brochure and State of the Science report for more details and citations.
Recent health studies provide growing evidence of harm from GMOs:
Many crops are genetically modified so frequently, it’s nearly
impossible to find non-GMO versions. These modifications usually involve
either a seed manufacturer making their seeds genetically resistant to a
certain type of weed-killer (that the seed company also conveniently
sells--synergy!) or to make plants resistant to certain pests naturally.
You may not know that you’re eating these crops--despite the fact
that they appear in 80% of all packaged food sold in the
country--because the U.S. is one of the few places in the developed
world that doesn’t require food producers to disclose whether or not
their ingredients have any modifications.
If something is labeled "organic" by the USDA, that means it has no GMO crops. The Non-GMO Project
is also working on a system for labeling products that aren’t
genetically enhanced. To be fair, there isn’t any science that proves
that GMO crops are at all bad for consumption; there also aren’t any
that confirm that they’re safe. For now, we’re in the dark. And more and
more GMO products--like Monsanto’s sneaky, unlabeled sweet corn, the first direct-to-consumer GMO food--are coming to market every day. The full infographic is here:
