Study Shows Cognitive Gains from Meditation Training Maintained Seven Years Later

Study Shows Cognitive Gains from Meditation Training Maintained Seven Years Later
Gains in the ability to sustain attention developed through intensive meditation training are maintained up to seven years later, according to a new study published in the Journal of Cognitive Enhancement.
Regular meditation effectively supports mental, emotional and physical health in numerous tangible ways. Several previous studies have supported the hypothesis that meditation training improves practitioners’ emotional regulation. Meditation training programs can have measurable effects on how the brain functions even when someone is not actively meditating, especially in areas related to pain.
In building upon this strong body of evidence, researchers are continuing to deepen our understanding of the profound and inspirational benefits of regular meditation practice in everyday life…
The study based on the Shamatha Project, is a major investigation of the cognitive, psychological and biological effects of meditation led by researchers at the University of California, Davis, Center for Mind and Brain.
“This study is the first to offer evidence that intensive and continued meditation practice is associated with enduring improvements in sustained attention and response inhibition, with the potential to alter longitudinal trajectories of cognitive change across a person’s life,” said first author Anthony Zanesco, postdoctoral researcher at the University of Miami, who began work on the project before starting his Ph.D. program in psychology at UC Davis. The project is led by Clifford Saron, research scientist at the UC Davis Center for Mind and Brain, in collaboration with a large group of researchers.
The Shamatha Project is the most comprehensive longitudinal study of intensive meditation yet undertaken and has drawn the attention of scientists and Buddhist scholars alike, including the Dalai Lama, who has endorsed the project. It examines the effects of two intensive meditation retreats held in 2007 at the Shambhala Mountain Center in Red Feather Lakes, Colorado. The study followed 60 experienced meditators who attended these three-month meditation retreats and received ongoing instruction in meditation techniques from Buddhist scholar, author and teacher B. Alan Wallace of the Santa Barbara Institute for Consciousness Studies. They attended group meditation sessions twice a day and engaged in individual practice for about six hours a day.

Gains Maintained in Regular Meditators

Immediately after the study, participants in the meditation retreat showed improvements in attention as well as in general psychological well-being and ability to cope with stress.
Since the retreats, the researchers have followed up with participants at six and 18 months, and most recently at seven years. The 40 participants who remained in the study at this latest follow-up all reported that they continued some form of meditation practice over the seven-year period, equivalent to about an hour a day on average.
The new study shows that those gains in attention observed immediately after retreat were partly maintained seven years later, especially for older participants who maintained a more diligent meditation practice over the seven years. Compared to those who practiced less, these participants maintained cognitive gains and did not show typical patterns of age-related decline in sustained attention.
The participants’ lifestyle or personality might also have contributed to the observations, Zanesco noted. Benefits from meditation appeared to have plateaued after the retreats, even in participants who practiced the most: This could have implications for how much meditation can, in fact, influence human cognition and the workings of the brain, he said.

Are we all quantum computers? Scientists are conducting tests to find out

It’s actually less crazy than it sounds.

By David Nield
It’s possible that our own human brains are capable of performing advanced quantum computing calculations – and now scientists are conducting a series of detailed experiments to try and find out for sure.
It’s easy to think of computers and brains as similar – both process information, and make decisions, and deal with inputs and outputs. But some scientists think the incredible complexity of the brain can only be explained by quantum mechanics.
In other words, phenomena like quantum entanglement and superposition, all the knotty stuff of quantum physics, are actually regular occurrences inside our brains. Not everyone is so sure, but we might be about to get an answer either way.
“If the question of whether quantum processes take place in the brain is answered in the affirmative, it could revolutionise our understanding and treatment of brain function and human cognition,” says one of the team involved in running these tests, Matt Helgeson from the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB).
If you’re new to the world of quantum computing, it builds on the ideas of quantum mechanics– ways of explaining the Universe at the smallest atomic scales, when the rules of classical physics no longer appear to fit.
The most crucial part of quantum computing you need to understand is the way that the regular bits or on/off switches of classical computers – all those 1s and 0s that store data – get replaced by qubits.
Qubits can be both 1s and 0s simultaneously, thanks to the idea of superposition we mentioned earlier: the hypothesis that a quantum object can be in multiple states at once, at least until it gets measured.
All of which means quantum computing has the potential to create vastly more complex processing networks than today’s computers can manage, helping us to tackle some of the hardest problems in science.
But back to the human body. The newly funded research about to get underway will go qubit hunting in the brain – qubits usually need extremely low temperatures to work, but there might be ways around that in our warm and wet organs.
One of the upcoming experiments will try and examine whether qubits could be stored in the nuclear spins at the core of atoms, rather than the electrons surrounding them. Phosphorus atoms in particular, which our bodies are packed with, could act as biochemical qubits.
“Extremely well-isolated nuclear spins can store – and perhaps process – quantum information on human time scales of hours or longer,” says one of the team, Matthew Fisher from UCSB.
Other experiments will look at the potential for decoherence, which happens when the links and dependency between qubits – the idea of quantum entanglement – start to break down. For our brains to be quantum computers, there must be a built-in way that our biological qubits are shielded from decoherence.
Yet another experiment is going to investigate mitochondria, the cell subunits responsible for our metabolism and sending messages around the body. It’s possible that these organelles also play a significant role in qubit entanglement.
In other words, the neurotransmitters and synaptic firing in our brains could be creating quantum coupled networks, just like a quantum computer. Fisher and his team will attempt to emulate this in the lab.
Quantum computing processes could eventually help us explain and understand the brain’s most mysterious functions, like the way we hold on to long-term memories, or where consciousness, emotion, and awareness actually come from.
All of this is very high-level, complicated physics, and there’s no guarantee we’re going to get answers. Even if it’s too soon to say for sure whether the brain is a quantum computer or not though, the planned research should reveal much more about how this most complicated of organs works.
“We will explore neuronal function with state-of-the-art technology from completely new angles and with enormous potential for discovery,” says one of the team, Tobias Fromme from the Technical University of Munich in Germany.

Secret Helpful Higher Self Protocol 1

By We Love Mass Meditation
In this article, we are going to introduce a protocol that can assist people on this planet to utilize the connection to their Higher Selves, and to anchor light to their physical selves in such a way that balance and Harmony is flowing in all planes of existence.
First of all, let us give a brief introduction of what the Higher Self is.

Your Higher Self

One of the most healing vibrations to bring in is the energy of your Higher Self. Each of us has a Higher Self that offers guidance and wisdom beyond the limitations of our ego personality. Your Higher Self is your own authentic energy, it provides access to your own information and answers, and it still gives you room to be real with your emotions. The vibration of your Higher Self is ideally suited to your unique body. Whereas the vibration of foreign spiritual beings is often stressful on your physical body, letting your body become a vessel for your Higher Self is safe and healing for you.

Developing Awareness

If you would like to become more aware of this phenomenon, start to watch when others are running an energy that is authentic and true to them. Also, notice when others are running a vibration that is not authentic to them. At these times, they may be hard to connect with, behave out-of-character, or use the pronoun ‘we’ excessively. The best way to develop awareness of your own energy is through aura, meditation healing and energy readings. As you become more conscious of yourself, you can choose to continually retune yourself to high, healing vibrations…like the energy of your Higher Self.
When you act in each present moment with full awareness you are able to understand the idea of how you can start guiding energy with the help of your Higher Self. As you work with light and sound within your own vibratory field, you are able to enhance the intent of your energy field and thus have an effect on that which you are holding a space in your heart for.
The situation that you wish to become better, for example: healing to yourself, your loved ones, the planet etc. will then flow in harmony as you are using your own mastery and vibratory field of consciousness.
When we connect with each other’s Higher Selves we allow our hearts to connect, and heart energy connection is one of the most powerful tools to become a master of energy and to have a good connection with your Higher Self. Collaborative meditation improves the collective intent and enhances the outcome of any situation. Positive electromagnetic fields of resonance within the auric field creates positive vector equilibrium spheres (merkabah) which then form part of the larger flower of life grid that surrounds this planet. You may visualize many souls on the planet in their Light bodies, also known as the merkabah, while meditating together and see them all forming a light that is larger than the planet, then visualize the light enfolding throughout the planetary grid.
The following images show the Vector Equilibrium and how it fits into the flower of life and the larger galaxy etc.:
With the current energies that are streaming in towards and throughout the planet, through all portals of Light from the Galactic Central Sun, the Light Forces recognize that some things can become overwhelming for some of the awakened and even more so the unawakened part on the planet, whether they will be coming to a new phase of awakening, release of old belief systems, remembrance of past lives, re-learning the highest intent that is needed for the new Earth etc.
The following graph shows how the planes of existence flow in order:
You can read these excellent articles by Untwine for more information of each of these planes: http://recreatingbalance1.blogspot.co.uk/2017/09/energetic-dissuasion-and-free-will.html

The following protocol has been initiated to assist people on this planet to utilize the connection to their Higher Selves and to anchor light to their physical selves in such a way that balance and Harmony is flowing in all planes of existence:

HSP 1 (Higher Self Protocol 1)

I now ask for my physical self to be filled with Light from my Higher Self.  For my physical, plasma and etheric self to be harmonized in Pure Love and Light.  I ask for all Beings of Light within my Soul Family, to cloak my human self with a blanket of Love and Light, that will raise my vibration in such a way that all is flowing with Love, Grace and Harmony in all Realms.  I ask that the Highest Light and Love of my Higher Self (Divine Logos) which is connected to Source, Activates and Harmonizes all around me with Pure Unconditional Love and Light. And so it is Selamat Gajun! Selamat Ja! (Sirian for Be One! and Be in Joy!)
In the protocol above, there is a word “Logos” in the fourth sentence. One of the explanations of Logos can be found in Britannica as follows:
“The idea of the logos in Greek thought harks back at least to the 6th-century-BC philosopher Heracleitus, who discerned in the cosmic process a logos analogous to the reasoning power in man. Later, the Stoics, philosophers who followed the teachings of the thinker Zeno of Citium (4th–3rd century BC), defined the logos as an active rational and spiritual principle that permeated all reality. They called the logos providence, nature, god, and the soul of the universe, which is composed of many seminal logoi that are contained in the universal logos. Philo of Alexandria, a 1st-century-AD Jewish philosopher, taught that the logos was the intermediary between God and the cosmos, being both the agent of creation and the agent through which the human mind can apprehend and comprehend God. According to Philo and the Middle Platonists, philosophers who interpreted in religious terms the teachings of the 4th-century-BC Greek master philosopher Plato, the logos was both immanent in the world and at the same time the transcendent divine mind.”
As we approach the end of this article, we would also like to mention Seshat, who was a goddess of reading, writing, arithmetic and architecture.
“Seshat (Sesha, Sesheta or Safekh-Aubi) was a goddess of reading, writing, arithmetic and architecture who was seen as either the female aspect of Thoth, his daughter or his wife. They had a child called Hornub. This actually means “gold Horus“, so Seshat was sometimes associated with Isis. She was the scribe of the pharaoh, recording all of his achievements and triumphs including recording both the booty and the captives taken in battle. She was also thought to record the actions of all people on the leaves of the sacred persea tree.”

However, if you still need some clarity about whether you’ve begun to embody your Higher Self(Christ Energy), simply follow these guidelines.
1. You know what your purpose is here on Earth
You know what you came here to do. There is no doubt. Perhaps you’ve quit your job, started a new career, gone back to school or even moved to the other side of the world to answer the calling. You no longer fit into the old paradigm and have released old ways of thinking.
2. You are mentally and physically lighter
For the first time in a long time, you feel more alive than ever. You feel motivated, inspired and invigorated. This is because you are finally accepting your genuine higher self with gratitude and happiness. It is possible you have recently and miraculously recovered from an illness or chronic aliment. Also, you find yourself eating healthy, nutritious food and are drawn toward positive vibrations and people.

There Is Scientific Proof That It Is Possible To Heal The Body With The Mind

There Is Scientific Proof That It Is Possible To Heal The Body With The Mind
By Sherrie
The mind is the control center of the human being, even more so than you know. The mind can make decisions, learn new things and feel emotions — it can also heal the body. You heard it right, the mind can completely and utterly destroy all signs of disease from the body.
One of the worst things to hear from your doctor is that you have a serious illness. The plans will be altered and your life will now revolve around treatments and medications, right? In most cases, this scenario proves to be true. In those few cases, this couldn’t be further from fact, especially if you know how to think correctly.
In case you didn’t know, and chances are, you didn’t, you can heal yourself with thought alone. The myths of this aren’t myths at all. There is proof to this idea.

Miracles and Science

Miracles may be one way to look at healing with the mind, and science could be the other way. With miracles, we place our lives in the hands of a great deity, praying that our ailments will go away. Science, on the other hand, provides a physiological explanation for this phenomenon.
Lissa Rankin, during a recent TEDtalk, explained the reality of healing with thought alone. It seems that the placebo effect has great power over the way we think and function, repairing our imperfections. This talk has shaken the medical profession. Doctors have a problem believing their treatments and medications could potentially become useless. If the mind heals the body and itself, then this is true.

Tests and the Truth

Of course, the only way to convince those who may be a little skeptical would be to reveal the results of the latest placebo tests. People of various diseases such as HIV, cancer and heart disease, 3500 to be exact, were tested using the mind healing placebo effect. After the test was completed, the illnesses were improved or healed completely.
According to a paper published in the Journal of Projective Techniques in 1957, a man called Mr. Wright was given a medication and told that the drug would cure his cancer. After taking the medication, his tumors shrunk drastically. Upon realizing the drug didn’t really work, his cancer grew again. He was then administered, what he was told, was a better version of the same drug, and his tumors shrunk once again, half the size! Unfortunately, news broadcasts reported that all versions of the drug were worthless. The next day, the cancer patient died. Because of his beliefs, his mind took control over every aspect of his body and repaired what was wrong. When the placebo was revealed for what it really was, the doubts, depression and frustration defeated the patient’s will to live.

Comfort for Healing

It has also been understood that patients suffering alone are not as likely to survive as those who use health care. Doctors and nurses do more than administer drugs, they also provide comfort during the illness. Even when these doctors may be administering fake treatments, they are also providing a positive environment, which the body needs.

What the mind can really do

The mind basically works through stress response and relaxation. There are many stress indicators throughout our day which contribute to an unhealthy system. Relaxation stimulates the brain to heal from the stress. When these things are out of balance, they can produce illnesses or make us more prone to contracting illnesses. Basically, the body’s defense system is not at peak performance when the brain is occupied with other issues.
In balance, the brain can work wonders. Not only can the mind heal illnesses of the body, it can also heal itself. The mind can do many things like cause hair to grow back and heal irritating issues that aren’t necessarily deadly.
With this being said, since the essential idea of staying healthy and living a long life seem to come from the power of the mind, it is obvious that our environment plays a huge part in how we think as well. Surrounding yourself with positive situations and people may just be the secret to maintaining a healthy body and stimulating the natural human control center — the mind.
