Bio Breakthrough: Scientists Unveil First Ever Biological Supercomputer

Bio Breakthrough: Scientists Unveil First Ever Biological Supercomputer

Canadian scientists have apparently opened the door to the world of biological supercomputers: this week they unveiled a prototype of a potentially revolutionary unit – as small as a book, energy-efficient with extreme mathematical capabilities and which, importantly, does not overheat.

Scientists have created an energy efficient biological supercomputer that is able to process information quickly and accurately using parallel networks in the same way that huge electronic supercomputers do.
The potentially revolutionary biological device is powered by adenosine triphosphate, protein strings, which the scientific community often refers to as the “molecular unit of currency.”
The bio supercomputer, which the team of developers refers to as a prototype, because it still needs some work done on it, will open the doors to the creation of future biological supercomputers that are not only small but also more sustainable.

The results of the joint work led by professor Dan Nicolau from Canada’s McGill University, were published this week in the journal PNAS.
“Now that this model exists as a way of successfully dealing with a single problem, there are going to be many others who will follow up and try to push it further, using different biological agents, for example,” the Modern Readers technology website quotes the scientist as saying.
The bio supercomputer is not only small, just about the same size as a book, but also more sustainable, but with the same mathematical capabilities as have conventional, giant-sized supercomputers.
In addition, it is very energy-efficient and doesn’t overheat like its non-biological counterparts do.
The researchers believe a more complete version may be on the cards, with the help of hybridization technology.
“One option for dealing with larger and more complex problems may be to combine our device with a conventional computer to form a hybrid device,” said Nicolau in his press statement. “Right now we’re working on a variety of ways to push the research further.”

3 Health Supplements To Maximize Wellness

3 Health Supplements To Maximize Wellness
By Lance Schuttler
With more people around the world wanting to reclaim and maintain excellent health and well-being, health supplements continue to be a sought-after solution. For many people, eating a balanced diet makes them feel they are getting all of their nutrients into their diet. For others, adding in a few health supplements helps them to address their specific needs. While there are many excellent foods and supplements out there, we’ll provide information on three that really stand out…and for good reason.

Fulvic Acid

According Dr. Daniel Nuzum, fulvic acids are created by soil-based microorganisms and is the end-product of decomposed organic matter. Fulvic acid has numerous benefits for the body, including being the most potent anti-oxidant known, an extremely rich source of electrolytes, catalyzes enzyme reactions, helps to chelate heavy metals, restores electrochemical balance and increases the synthesis rate of RNA and DNA.
Fulvic and humic acids are beneficial to all biological life.
Fulvic and humic acids are beneficial to all biological life.
Fulvic acid is a unique free radical scavenger (anti-oxidant) in that it can both accept and donate electrons to neutralize and render useless free radicals. There is no other substance that is know that can do that. Amazingly, it has over 14 tetratrillion electrons it can donate or receive, according to Dr. Nuzum.
antioxidant_activity-768x440
A single fulvic acid molecule contains over 14,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 electrons.

Since it supplies so many electrons, electrochemical balance returns and allows the body to function optimally. According to Dr. Jerry Tennant, having enough electrical activity within the body is necessary for not only wellness, but life itself.
“Chronic disease is always defined by having low body voltage. One cannot cure chronic disease without inserting enough electrons to achieve -50mV (millivolts). One must have the raw materials necessary to make new cells and to eliminate the toxins or infections present that will damage the new cells. You can take all the medications you like and do as much surgery as you like, but you will not heal unless you have -50mV, raw materials (nutrients) and lack of toxins.”
In addition to supplying sufficient electrical activity, according to Supreme Fulvic, fulvic acid is also able to increase nutrient assimilation into the cells, transport any nutrient possible (due to its extremely low molecular weight) and detoxify cellular waste. It can also chemically convert toxins into usable nutrients for cells. In essence, that means it converts metabolic waste into food and energy for the cell.
Radioactive substances also react very quickly with fulvic acid, which is able to render the radioactive substances harmless.
In the search for any health supplement it is best to search for the best source of your desired product. As for fulvic acid, Optimally Organic says it is best when it is water-extracted from lush vegetation and not from a dried rock bed.

Reishi

health-benefits-of-mushrooms-2Reishi mushroom is known in Chinese medicine as the “mushroom of immortality.” It is also said to be one of the only substances on Earththat provides the three different types of non-physical energy, which is Shen, Chi and Jing.
On the physical level, this claim appears to be backed up with many scientific studies. Some studies show that Reishi helps to protect a person from liver disease, cardiovascular disease, cancers, digestive issues, diabetes, HIV and AIDS, high blood pressure and anxiety and depression.
In the thousands of years that Reishi has been used, there have yet to be any contraindications found with it, which means it is safe to use with pharmaceutical drugs.

Rose Essential Oil

Rose essential oil has a wonderful smell.
Rose essential oil has a wonderful smell.
“To inhale rose is to inhale the love and kisses of angels,” says Valerie Ann Wordwood, author of Aromatherapy For The Soul. If you have smelled rose essential oil, you just may agree with her.
Rose essential oil is most widely known for it’s anti-depressant qualities and it’s benefits for the skin. Rubbing drops of rose oil on one’s temples or pulse points can help it create this anti-depressant effect, as well as inhaling it. Due to the olfactory system being so connected to the limbic system of the brain, when we smell the rose oil molecules, they positive affect the limbic system, which deals with stress, anxiety, emotional response and memory. So, if a person becomes physically or emotionally stressed or is having trouble with memory, smelling rose essential oil may be a healthy way to deal with those challenges.
According to Dr. Josh Axe, rose essential oil is also great for libido and balancing the hormone response within our body.

Options

With great options everywhere for health supplements, it is important to find what is right for you. What may be right for someone, may not be right for someone else. Use discernment and ask questions to find the best sourced and highest quality supplements possible.
What are some of your favorite health supplements? Have you used any of the three listed above? Are you apt to try any of these after reading more about each of them?

The Electric Universe: What They Do Not Want You to Know

The Electric Universe: What They Do Not Want You to Know
By Pao Chang
Is the Universe electric in nature? Many researchers and scientists are arguing that mainstream science’s current understanding of the Universe is not accurate, because it does not acknowledge that electricity plays a very important role in the creation of the Universe. Does the Electric Universe theory have all the answers to explaining how the Universe works? I do not think it does but it does have a lot of essential information for helping us innerstand how the Universe works.
As described on ElectricUniverse.info:
The Electric Universe theory argues that electricity plays a more important role in the Universe, than is generally accepted (see also “Electricity throughout the Universe“).
As a theory, it offers explanations of various natural and astrophysical phenomena, some of which it claims are better understood without the need for various ad hoc explanations. As with any theory, the Electric Universe makes predictions that have been tested, and is published in both peer-reviewed papers, and popular books.
The Electric Universe theory is interdisciplinary, integrating and supporting subject as diverse as the science (astronomy, geology, physics), with the soft sciences such as ancient history and comparative mythology.
Here is another excerpt from the same website:
The Electric Universe theory highlights the importance of electricity throughout the Universe. It is based on the recognition of existing natural electrical phenomena (eg. lightning, St Elmo’s Fire), and the known properties of plasmas (ionized “gases”) which make up 99.999% of the visible universe, and react strongly to electro-magnetic fields. Much of the material considered by the Electric Universe is peer-reviewed, but not all (see Speculative Theories, below).

Island in Scotland to be First 100% Self-Sustaining Place on Earth

(Earth — We Are One) Virescent mountains, verdant valleys, and clean energy. Sound like a scene from The Sound of Music or a fictional novel about utopia? It is neither. It is in fact, the description of the one place on this planet that is about to be 100% self-sustaining – Scotland’s Eigg Island. Eigg has a pristine landscape, a broad array of sustainable strategies and gets over 90% of its energy from renewable sources. Along with its witty accent, the Scots offer an example of how to live well, without fossil fuels and rampant ecological and environmental degradation.
“Dr. Livingstone, I presume?” No, we have new heroes. They are the residents of Scotland’s forward thinking Eigg.
Solar panels, wind turbines and hydroelectric schemes sprinkled across the island meet the energy requirements of almost all of its residents. With a $2.64 million electricity grid switched on back in 2008, operating independently of the UK’s national grid, the island wasn’t able to bring in big energy companies, so they did something unthinkable – they used their electricity economically – keeping consumption under 5 kilowatts, with a limit for businesses at 10 kilowatts. The island also enjoys a wonderful geographic locale. It has abundant sun, and wind – what some would call ‘harsh’ weather conditions, but a phenomenon the islanders use to their benefit. They even have free heating in public spaces, like churches and their community center.
What’s even more shocking – the island is owned by its residents! In 1997 Eigg Islanders bought the farm – quite literally.  Anyone who lives on the island for more than six months becomes a member of the resident committee that decides who things are run in their town.
Since we can’t all move to Eigg, we can at least implement some of their novel ideas. Sovereignty of power, in multiple versions of the word, apparently, is no pipe dream.

World’s Hottest Hole: Iceland to Harness Molten Magma for Electricity, Could Power 50,000 Homes

World's Hottest Hole: Iceland to Harness Molten Magma for Electricity, Could Power 50,000 Homes

By Lorraine Chow

Earth’s abundant inner heat, or geothermal energy, has incredible potential as a renewable energysource. For traditional geothermal projects, hot rocks produce steam for turbines. Over in Iceland, however, a consortium of researchers and companies want to dig much, much deeper into Earth’s crust in order to explore the renewable energy potential of molten magma.
The Iceland Deep Drilling Project (IDDP) is drilling a 5-kilometer (3.1-mile) hole into old lava flows in the Reykjanes, a region in southwest Iceland filled with geothermal sites. Once drilling is complete by the end of 2016, the Nordic nation will be home to the hottest hole in the world with temperatures between 400 and 1,000 degrees Celsius (or 752-1,832 degrees Fahrenheit), according to New Scientist.
This effort is being led by Icelandic energy companies such as Hitaveita Sudurnesja, Landsvirkjun and Orkuveita Reykjavíkur, as well as the National Energy Authority of Iceland.
Since Aug. 12, the IDDP’s rig—actually named “Thor”—has been drilling deep into a landward extension of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, an underwater mountain range that extends above sea level through the center of Iceland.
“People have drilled into hard rock at this depth, but never before into a fluid system like this,” Albert Albertsson, assistant director of a geothermal energy company involved in the project, explained to New Scientist.
At this depth, seawater that has penetrated the ocean bed has not only been superheated by magma, it’s also highly pressurized (more than 200 times atmospheric air pressure). The team expects to find water in the form of “supercritical steam,” aka “dragon water,” which is neither liquid nor steam but holds more heat energy than both.

Albertsson said that a well capable of harnessing this steam has an energy capacity of 50 megawatts, about 10 times more than a conventional geothermal well. Theoretically, IDDP’s new well could power 50,000 homes compared to the 5,000 homes powered by a single geothermal well.
“If they can get supercritical steam in deep boreholes, that will make an order of magnitude difference to the amount of geothermal energy the wells can produce,” Arnar Guðmundsson from Invest in Iceland, a government agency that promotes energy development, told New Scientist.
If this project this sounds a little dicey, as Motherboard explained, this isn’t the first time IDDP has tapped into Icelandic lava power:
“In 2009, an IDDP rig located in Krafla, northeast Iceland, accidentally struck a magma reservoir just over a mile underground. Excited about the prospects of new geothermal energy, the project partnered with Iceland’s National Power Company, and installed a perforated steel casing at the bottom of the well. This successfully allowed the flow of magma to create superheated, extremely pressurized steam at temperatures exceeding 800°F—at the time, a world record for geothermal heat.
“Power created by the Krafla borehole was never fed back into the grid, and the project was shuttered in 2012 after a critical valve needed repairing.”
“In the future, the success of this drilling and research project could lead to a revolution in the energy efficiency of high-temperature geothermal areas worldwide,” said Wilfred Elders, a professor emeritus of geology at the University of California, Riverside who was involved in an earlier IDDP project.
According to DeSmogBlog, New Zealand, Indonesia, the Philippines, the U.S. and Mexico already have commercial geothermal plants.
Iceland, known for its numerous bubbling hot springs and geysers, already heats up to 90 percentof its homes and supplies about a third of its electricity with geothermal.

The Real Effects of Architecture on the Mind, Body, and Spirit

http://omnithought.org/real-effects-of-architecture-on-mind-body-spirit/3062

The Future of Cognitive Architecture

The cognitive revolution is just getting started, and we are only beginning to understand how our brains and bodies take in the world around us. Experts in neuroscience and architecture alike look forward to advancements that can have beneficial applications in all sorts of structures.
For example, nearly everyone has experienced a less-than-ideal working environment. Flickering fluorescent lights, freezing or sweltering temperatures, conflicting design elements, and more can dramatically increase stress amongst a workforce, depleting energy and preventing productivity. When these errors are remedied, the effects of an environment are immediately obvious.
In some industries, especially within the industrial sector, we already have sturdy, somewhat more sustainable, buildings that provide benefits workers need: fabric structures. However, in other fields, like health care or education, we eagerly await breakthroughs that demonstrate real impact. With evidence from cognitive science, we can construct hospitals that help patients heal with design and schools that encourage learning through materials and angles.
Though it happens constantly, perception is an intensely complex task. The spaces around us ― both the ones we create and the ones governed by nature ― inform how we live and how we think. Thus, it is imperative that when we construct, we be amply aware of the effects of our constructions: on the environment and on ourselves.
